My objective is to continue to grow and develop as a leader, who is competent to read, evaluate, conduct, report, and implement research within the context of my work in leading The Matzevah Foundation (TMF). Therefore, in this competency, I wanted to demonstrate how I have learned to deepen and broaden my knowledge base of how to develop and write literature reviews, construct research proposals, and select appropriate research methodologies to investigate the work of TMF. My reflection paper will reflect what I have learned about conducting research and will illustrate how I have applied these theoretical constructs to research the interaction of Jews and Christians within the framework of TMF. 

The Andrews University Leadership Department advances a set of leadership competencies, which require students to have “theoretical knowledge and practical application” within a set of “core [leadership] competencies” of which the “leadership and research” is one group of competencies (Leadership Handbook, 2011, p. 37).

​This collection of competencies addresses the importance of data necessity “use data to communicate, persuade, and make decisions, and to contribute to the knowledge base for leadership” (Leadership Handbook, 2011, p. 37). It is necessary to demonstrate competency in qualitative and quantitative research methods. There are three concentrations within this competency, (a) Reading and evaluating research, (b) conducting research, and (c) reporting and implementing research (Leadership Handbook, 2011, p. 37).
