Introduction
The Andrews University Leadership Department advances a set of leadership competencies, which require students to have “theoretical knowledge and practical application” within a set of “core [leadership] competencies” (Leadership Handbook, 2011, p. 36). The fifth group of competencies is an option “individually chosen” (Leadership Handbook, 2011, p. 36).
The purpose of this competency is to develop an academic, credible, and ethical understanding of the Shoah (Holocaust) and its impact through the prism of Jewish ethics.
My reflection paper will examine how ethical values form a bridge of mercy for me, the board of TMF, and its volunteers to become Jewish in our understanding of the Shoah and our work of caring for and restoring Jewish cemeteries in Poland.
Ultimately, my understanding of the Shoah and these Jewish and ethical values will define, shape, and provide direction for my research and the crafting of my dissertation.
I would like to clear this competency at the Proficient Level.

TMF has been caring for the Jewish cemetery in Oświęcim (near Auschwitz) since 2013.
