Philosophical Foundations
Competency 1a: Philosophical Foundations
Introduction
Competency 1a
The Andrews University Leadership Department advances a set of leadership competencies, which require students to have “theoretical knowledge and practical application” within a set of “core [leadership] competencies” of which the “leadership of the self” is one group of competencies (Leadership Handbook, 2011, p. 36). This first group of leadership competencies addresses “the self awareness and the personal and professional identity required when practicing leadership;” specifically Competency 1A: Philosophical Foundations describes how leadership “functions within the context of multiple perspectives and understands how individual worldview influences practice” (Leadership Handbook, 2011, p. 36).
